Free Zones in the UAE: Ideal Locations for Business Development

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) is renowned for its free economic zones, which provide unique opportunities for entrepreneurs. There are several free zones in various emirates of the UAE, including Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, Fujairah, Ajman, Ras al-Khaimah, and Umm al-Quwain.

Free zones can be broadly categorized as seaport, airport, or mainland. They offer benefits such as 100% foreign ownership, import and export tax exemptions, full repatriation of capital and profits, corporate tax exemptions for up to 50 years, and no personal income taxes.

Each free zone specializes in specific industries and is governed by an independent authority. They have their own rules and requirements regarding minimum capital, office or warehouse space, and permitted activities.

Investors can register a new company as a Free Zone Establishment (FZE) or establish a branch or representative office of their existing or parent company. FZEs operate under the rules of the respective free zone and are exempt from the Commercial Companies Law.

Some free zones in the UAE offer Dual Business Licenses, allowing companies to operate both in the free zone and on the mainland using the same license.
